Extra precautions need to be taken if you have a history of venous thromboembolism (Deep Blood Clots), are obese, had recent major surgery or, are over age 65.
Drink fluids before boarding and avoid alcohol and caffeine and their diuretic action. Small exercise movements (knee lifts, ankle turns, etc) may be helpful. Select a properly fitting compression stocking at your home medical store or pharmacy.
Women who take birth control pills can have 14 times higher risk for blood clots during plane flights than women who do not take oral contraceptives.
