Hawthorne will offer the COVID-19 Vaccine in early 2021
Hawthorne Pharmacy will be offering COVID-19 vaccines in the second phase, once they become available to the general public. Our pharmacists are educating themselves as new information is released, and we will continue to update our patients throughout this process. We don’t know the exact date that vaccines will be available or which vaccine we will receive. Below you will find the information we have about the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to get the COVID-19 vaccine?
Yes! Each COVID-19 vaccine has been studied in tens of thousands of people. There are no indications that these vaccines would be less safe than any other vaccine. The most common side effects include pain and redness at the injection site, chills, and fever.
Who should get the vaccine?
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is recommended for individuals 16 years of age and older. Vaccines from other manufacturers should be available soon.
Can the vaccine give me COVID-19?
No. Vaccination may hurt a little and possibly make you feel feverish or achy as a side effect, but these vaccines CANNOT give you COVID-19. If you receive a COVID-19 vaccine and develop a mild fever or chills, you can take acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
Were the COVID-19 vaccines rushed through the development process?
COVID-19 may be new, but coronaviruses are not. Scientists were able to leverage previous research to identify dozens of vaccine candidates quickly, while unprecedented financial support from governments around the world empowered scientists to tap into innovative vaccine technologies and removed financial risks.
The vaccine approval process still prioritizes safety above all else. The need for a vaccine in this pandemic is so great that some steps were sped up or done at the same time; however, NO safety steps were skipped in the development of these vaccines.
Trusted public health experts, scientists, and health care providers have been involved since the beginning of this process. The safety of each vaccine has been reviewed and assessed by numerous independent experts.
How does the vaccine work?
You’ll get two doses of the vaccine, and you need both doses for the vaccine to be effective. You’ll get your first dose, then you’ll come back 21 days later to receive the second dose. It’s important to note that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is NOT interchangeable with other manufacturers’ vaccines, so get your follow-up shot at the same place that you got your first one.
What happens after I get the vaccine?
So far, studies have indicated these vaccines are very effective if people receive all of the required doses. Preliminary reports indicate that mRNA vaccines may reduce the risk of COVID-19 disease by about 95%, starting a week or two after the second dose.
Masks and other social distancing strategies are still recommended by CDC. You may have to get the COVID-19 vaccine again in the future—evaluation will be ongoing.
But by getting the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as you’re eligible for it, you can take an important step toward helping everyone get back to normal daily life!
