Pharmacist Spotlight: Jackson Murphy
Hawthorne Pharmacist Spotlight
Meet Jackson Murphy, PharmD, our Pharmacist and Location Manager at Hawthorne Aiken Pharmacy.
Where did you go to school?
I attended the University of South Carolina and obtained a bachelor's degree in Biology, and then attended the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy and graduated in 2013.
How long have you been with Hawthorne?
I have been with Hawthorne since I graduated in 2013. I worked for 5 years at the Medicine Mart Pharmacy in West Columbia during pharmacy school and always knew that I wanted to practice in the Independent Pharmacy environment due to the close patient relationships that can be formed.
What made you want to go into pharmacy?
I chose pharmacy because it was uniquely positioned to incorporate my interests in biology, chemistry, and public service.
Why did you choose Hawthorne Pharmacy?
I chose Hawthorne Pharmacy after having a great rotation experience at the Taylor Street compounding lab during my last year of pharmacy school. I felt that the company had core values that are very similar to my own and that it would be a great work environment.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy the relationships and trust that is forged between myself and the patients that I serve.
What do you like most about being in the Aiken area?
I enjoy Aiken because it still has a small-town feel. I grew up in Lexington prior to its incredible growth and feel that Aiken still has retained that small-town charm.
What is your area of expertise?
I have received formal training in both sterile and non-sterile compounding.
How are you involved in the Pharmacy Community?
I am a member of the SC Pharmacy Association and the Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding.
What are you up to when you're not in the lab?
I enjoy hiking and kayaking and also hold my private pilot's license and enjoying flying small airplanes with my father in my free time.
