Pharmacist Spotlight: Carrie Baker

Meet Carrie Baker, PharmD, the location manager at our Hawthorne Winnsboro Pharmacy!

Where did you go to school?

I went to Columbia College for undergrad and transferred into USC College of Pharmacy and was in the 1st class to graduate with a doctorate degree in pharmacy.

How long have you been with Hawthorne?

I have been with Hawthorne since 2017 when they took over for Price's Drugs. I have been at this location since 2000.

What made you want to go into pharmacy?

I have an autoimmune disease that required me to take a lot of medication and I wanted to know all about them.  My grandfather was also a small-town pharmacist in Bethune, SC, so I guess it runs in the family.

Why did you choose Hawthorne Pharmacy?

Hawthorne chose us.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I enjoy helping people.  Helping our patients is very important to me because I know our patients and care deeply for them.  One reason is because I grew up here and still reside here in Winnsboro.  My patients are my family.

What do you enjoy most about working in the Winnsboro area?

This is home to me and I enjoy helping my patients with their healthcare needs.  I feel rewarded when I have helped them with something and they come back to tell me that it worked.  I believe because I am from Winnsboro I can relate well with my patients and understand their needs better than an outsider would.

Do you have an area of expertise (specializations, certifications, training)?

I give immunizations and have a certificate in Cardiac Health. I have also done some hypertension classes for the SC Pharmacy Association.

Any hobbies? Fun facts?

I am a member of Bethel ARP Church in Winnsboro and serve with the Women's Ministry there.  I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 21 years and we have 3 children who attend our alma mater, Richard Winn Academy in Winnsboro.  We are very involved in their activities:  football, basketball, baseball, and volleyball/ Our oldest son will be graduating in May.

Fun facts:  I played basketball, tennis, and cheered in middle school and high school.  I enjoy boating and traveling with my family. My favorite color is blue and my favorite food is Mexican food. I like to read and I also like the Harry Potter movies/books.
